About Me

I’m an Iowa transplant – if that’s what they call it – originally from the suburbs of Chicago. I came to Iowa for school, met my husband freshman year and have since then called Iowa my home. We got married 3 weeks after graduating from college and both worked at Hy-Vee until we found the positions we are in now. My degree is in Vocal Music Education and I absolutely love teaching people to sing. I am hoping to one day have my masters and possibly doctorate degrees in Vocal Pedagogy to teach at the collegiate level but until then I am very happy to have the opportunity to do what I love 3 days a week at a public school while spending the other two weekdays with my kids.

Yep, kids with an s. In the past 6 years I have given birth to 5 kids ages 6, 4, 2, 1 and a newborn! 5 has always been our number for some reason – no, we’re not big basketball fans, soccer is more our game - and we are just about there! They are all so different and so special and I cannot imagine life without them in it! Who else, besides a kid, decides to stand creepily next to you while you sleep until you wake up so they can tell you they peed in the potty?

I was the first of my immediate and extended family to have kids as well as the first of many of my high school and college friends to start a family so I relied on friends from church and frankly the internet (waaaaay too much) for what to do. But, since now more friends and family are starting families of their own (yay babies!!) I’ve been asked more about advice to share. And, since I have the worst memory ever, writing it down seems to be the best way to share my experiences with others as well as remind myself when I completely fail as a mom that my kids are still okay.

I know I will never be perfect or exactly what I think an ideal mom should be, but I do believe I can love my kids and raise them into good humans and that sounds like a pretty good goal :)
